When is the auction running until?

The auction will run from 8am on Monday, November 9 to 8pm on Sunday, November 22 (all times GMT).

How do I bid?

Find an auction item (or items!) you like the look of on our Auction Lots page.

To place a bid, leave your bid (in GBP) in the comments. You will have to fill out a name and email for your bid (your email will not show on the comment). This is the email address we will contact you on if you are the highest bidder at the time the auction closes.

If you are outbid, you can leave a new comment increasing your bid.

The auction will close at 8pm on Sunday, November 22 and at that time, the highest bid in comments will be the winner.

What happens if I win?

We’ll confirm your win with you via the email address you commented with, and then ask you to donate your pledge amount to FareShare via our JustGiving page. Please do not donate before we’ve confirmed by email that you are the winning bidder. Any donations made in error cannot be returned.

You’ll then need to send confirmation of your donation to us, and we’ll pass your contact details on to the lot donor, who will be in touch to arrange for your item to be sent to you. Full instructions will be emailed to all winning bidders.

What is Books to Nourish?

Books to Nourish is a volunteer-run charity auction to raise money for FareShare. Auction items will be book-related, from signed items to editorial feedback sessions to bundles of books.

MPs have voted against making free school meals available to children outside of term time for the next six months, and the pandemic has hit many families hard. This is our very small way of helping.

Books to Nourish will raise money for FareShare, the UK’s longest running food redistribution charity. More information on FareShare can be found on its website.

Who is behind Books to Nourish?

Books to Nourish is being run by freelance journalist Sarah Shaffi (@sarahshaffi on Twitter) and erstwhile indie bookseller turned regular citizen Chloe Mavrommatis (@kloklo), with help from The Tandem Collective, a digital marketing consultancy, specialising in Instagram influencer campaigns and community engagement, co-founded by Naomi Bacon.

Can I donate an item? 

We’re officially closed to donations, but we want to raise as much money as possible for FareShare, so if you have something truly spectacular you want to donate, please email us on bookstonourish@gmail.com.

Are you collecting data?

We will only ask for information for the winning bidders. Your personal data, including but not limited to your name and email address, will be kept solely for and to the extent necessary for the purpose of the functioning of the auction. By participating, you are giving us your consent to this data processing and, in particular, consent to record and store this data and to email you and to share your email address with the item donor should your bid be the highest. All copies of the personal data taken in the course of the auction will be retained only as long as is necessary to fulfil the function of the auction.
